Sir Elton John, famous for his bedazzled glasses and hits like “Your Song,” has seen his fortune soar to an estimated £470 million, landing him in 291st place on The Sunday Times Rich List, up from 309th last year. This boost in wealth is largely attributed to his headline performance at Glastonbury and his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which concluded last year. The tour, his final series of concerts, sold 6 million tickets and grossed $939 million (£786 million), second only to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
How Did Sir Elton Make His Money?
According to filings from Companies House, The Sunday Times reported that John earned an impressive £20 million in 2023, primarily from music ventures. At 77, he composed the music for the stage adaptation of “The Devil Wears Prada,” set to open in the West End in October. He also hosts the Apple Music show Rocket Hour and sells a line of spectacular eyewear through his Elton John Eyewear brand.
In 2019, John co-produced “Rocketman,” a successful biopic that chronicles his rise to fame and battle with addiction.
John’s and Furnish’s New Exhibition
Recently, John and his husband, David Furnish, announced a new photography exhibition at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. Featuring over 300 pieces by 140 photographers, the display includes photos from John’s extensive collection, which he began after achieving sobriety in the 1990s. The exhibition, which opens this Saturday, showcases images ranging from Marilyn Monroe to the tragic events of 9/11, with tickets priced at £20.
