Major resurfacing work will be carried out from next week at two key stretches in the town.

The road between Muir Street and Station Road will be closed from May 20 until May 23, and the road between Duke Street and Station Road will be closed from May 28 to May 31.

While the major resurfacing work is being carried out, no vehicles, other than emergency services, will be allowed to park or drive during the closure periods, on either side of Drygate Street.

Colin Park, head of Roads, Transportation, and Fleet Services explained: “Unfortunately, neither of the areas of Drygate Street where work is planned, is sufficiently wide to enable us to maintain vehicle access and keep our workforce safe. That’s why closures will be required in each phase.

“We fully appreciate the inconvenience and frustration road closures can cause, and we thank motorists, residents, and businesses in advance for their patience and cooperation.

“Nonetheless, this work represents a significant investment in road maintenance and safety in Larkhall town centre. We hope that all who use it will agree that the temporary inconvenience will deliver long-term benefits for the community.

“As ever we would ask motorists in the area to plan ahead and build in additional journey time when they can.”

Residents will be contacted with extra information about access arrangements.
