A 55-year-old pedestrian was assaulted while walking on Causeyside Street near Forbes Place in Paisley around 5:10 pm on Saturday.
The victim was confronted by two men who began shouting at him and then followed him onto Marshalls Lane where the assault took place.
Emergency services rushed the victim to the hospital, and he is currently in a serious condition.
Police are appealing to witnesses who may have seen the incident, considering the area’s likely busyness at that time.
Detective Inspector Neil Martin stated, ‘We are actively investigating this violent attack to gather more information and determine the circumstances surrounding it.’
He added, ‘Given the town center’s activity during the assault, we urge anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to come forward promptly.’
