The Shape of You singer dropped into Fairlight Primary School in Brighton last Friday to meet with the children, who are learning how to play music, and tell them about his career.

Sheeran, who is among the top artists on streaming platform Spotify, performed a set in the classroom before donating guitars to inspire them to keep playing.

He sang his chart-topping hits at the front of the classroom including Perfect, Shape of You and Shivers – with the school singing along with every lyric – children and teachers.

A spokesman for the school said: “Our Monday singing assemblies won’t be the same again. ‘If you’re happy & you know it…’ hasn’t got the same pull. ”

The musician played guitar with the youngsters and watched them perform some of their own songs. He even signed some of the students’ guitars before heading off.

The visit was organised by Create Music, part of the Brighton Dome, which helps young people learn music in and out of their classrooms.

A spokesman for Create Music said: “Encouraging a passion for music supports our vision for a future where lives are forever transformed by the power of music – no one understands that better than Ed Sheeran.”
