Emergency services rushed to save a house in Compton Street in Eastbourne after reports of flooding in the house yesterday evening.
After arriving at the scene, East Sussex Fire and Rescue crews instead found dozens of cannabis plants being grown in the property.
The matter has been passed on to Sussex Police who confiscated a “significant” number of plants and are investigating.
A spokeswoman for the force said: “Yesterday evening at 8.15pm, East Sussex Fire and Rescue made a report to police after they discovered a suspected cannabis farm while tackling a flooded property in Compton Street, Eastbourne.

“Police attended the scene, and a search was conducted, where a significant number of cannabis plants were recovered from the address.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to make a report.”
Officers remained at the property this morning.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward via their online reporting form or by calling 101 quoting reference 1252 of 19/04.
