Taking to social media to reveal the news, the transport firm says they have said goodbye ‘to an icon’.

In the post, they announced the first of the Subway’s legacy fleet has officially left the depot after 43 years.

It comes as the transport service continues to welcome a new fleet of trains – with more expected to come into passenger service over the coming weeks.

In an Instagram post, Glasgow Subway said: “Farewell to an icon.

“The first of Subway’s legacy fleet has left the depot.

“These trains have served passengers for more than 43 years!

“While we are sorry to see these much-loved carriages go, we continue to welcome the new fleet on board with more new trains expected into passenger service over to coming weeks!”
