Deer dies in Ashdown Forest dog attack - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates

The incident happened earlier this month in Ashdown Forest in Sussex in a field that is also home to pregnant Hebridean ewes.

Forest officials said it has informed police of a number of incidents involving a “large dark brown” Labrador over the last few weeks.

The dog, which has a red collar, was reportedly spotted chasing livestock multiple times in land adjacent to the forest near the Tabell Ghyll and Ridge car park.

It is not known whether this is the same dog that killed the deer.

Ashdown Forest said: “We have made the police aware of these incidents.

“The free-roaming sheep and cattle may not be out on the forest yet, but there are many areas neighbouring Ashdown Forest which are home to livestock.

“Please remember that many grazing animals are currently pregnant and a dog chasing or even chasing animals nearby can cause enough stress for ewes to abort their lambs.

“The owner of a dog caught worrying livestock runs the risk of their dog being shot, and prosecution.”

They have asked that dog owners keep their pets in sight at all times and only let them off the lead when livestock are not around.

They also urged the public to report any instances of dogs chasing deer or livestock to them on 01342 822846.
