The building, a Georgian house, is called Buxted Park Hotel, and is in the park of the same name, near Uckfield.

It was originally built in 1725, but was restored and remodelled in 1940 after a fire.

Architect Basil Ionides took it upon himself to introduce original 18th-century features to the hotel which were salvaged from other old properties including Chesterfield House off Park Lane in London.

The park the hotel sits in is famous for its herd of deer and a large artificial lake which is home to several exotic birds.

During the Second World War, the Royal Society of Arts relocated its library of books and records to Buxted Park for safekeeping.

The hotel has hosted distinguished guests over the years, including former Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Marlon Brando visited the hotel in 1966 when Kenneth Shipmen, then the owner of Twickenham Film Studios, added a garden wing and swimming pool to the building and opened the house as a health centre.

Chain Hand Picked Hotels now runs the luxury hotel in Buxted and is celebrating after it was highly commended as one of the best wedding venues in the country.

The hotel said it offers beautiful suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows and spectacular views.
