Sussex residents invited to try out fire equipment at 'have a go' day - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates

Crews from Midhurst Fire Station are hosting a “have a go” day in New Road on Saturday, February 24, from 9am until 1pm.

As well as using equipment, potential recruits will be given a tour of the station and serving firefighters will be on hand to talk about careers in the fire and rescue service.

Matthew Gamblen, watch manager at Midhurst Fire Station, said: “Retained firefighters play a vital role in keeping the communities of West Sussex safe, in fact, 14 of our fire stations are crewed solely by retained firefighters.

“We would love to increase the number of retained firefighters at Midhurst and Petworth fire stations. There is no experience needed to join and it is a fantastic opportunity for people wanting to learn new skills and become an integral part of their local communities.”

Retained firefighters respond to emergency calls within their local area from either their home or main employment.

They receive regular training to equip them with the skills to deal with fires, road collisions and a wide range of other emergencies.
