“The seaside town’s main shopping streets are Kings Road and Norman Road, both chocka with galleries (we like Big Yin) and plenty of second-hand vintage from the likes of Calneva and Twisted King Interiors.

“Various attempts were made to turn the nearby Kino-Teatr into a bingo club and a sex cinema respectively, but it remains a haven for indie film buffs.

“Meanwhile, Selkie (reopening in April) is a cool bar hidden under the promenade, specialising in oysters and hot’n’steamy fish stews, or head to Bayte, the farm-to-table foodie opening co-founded by Ruby Boglione (of Petersham Nurseries fame), which is all raw plaster walls, ribollita and smoked cod’s roe.”
