Work is scheduled to take place at night during the week in the east-bore tunnel until Friday, March 1, 2024.

Part of the work here will focus on upgrading the tunnel’s CCTV systems, which are monitored 24-hours a day, every day by expert control room operators, to help keep road users safe and on the move.

The following overnight closures are scheduled between 10pm and 5am during the week.

Kent Highways continue to undertake routine safety inspections and general maintenance on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Overnight closures of the east-bore tunnel are scheduled between 10pm and 5am from Mondays to Fridays, and between 10.30pm to 5.30am on Sundays.

Overnight closures of the west-bore tunnel are scheduled between 10pm and 5am on Saturdays.

The next planned closure of the QEII Bridge is scheduled between 10pm on Saturday, February 24 and 5am on Sunday, February, 25.

The west- bore tunnel will remain open overnight for A282 northbound traffic, and a contraflow diversion will be installed through the east-bore tunnel to allow A282 southbound traffic to continue to cross from Essex in to Kent.

The two northbound Dartford tunnels have different height restrictions.

Information for drivers of goods vehicles and high-sided vehicles:

• When the east-bore tunnel is closed, vehicles less than 4.8m (15-9″) high will be diverted via the west-bore tunnel.

• Vehicles between 4.8m (15-9″) and 5.0m (16′-6″) high will be diverted via M25 clockwise.

• When the west-bore tunnel is closed, vehicles will be diverted via the east-bore tunnel.

• When the QEII Bridge is closed, southbound traffic will be diverted via the east-bore tunnel.

Vehicles less than 4.8m (15-9″) high travelling northbound will be able to use the west-bore tunnel as usual and for vehicles between 4.8m (15-9″) and 5.0m (16′-6″) high, an alternative diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise.
