The volunteers, who are part of the Sussex Volunteer Fraud Prevention Programme set up by Police Constable Bernadette Lawrie BEM, came second place at the national Lord Ferrers Awards in October last year.

The awards aim to recognise contributions to volunteering in policing and the people who give up their free time to make communities safer.

The Sussex volunteers who are part of this programme contact an average of 522 fraud victims monthly in their own time to offer them support.

The volunteer programme is just one of a number of volunteering opportunities available at Sussex Police.
