The 16-year-old, who cannot be named due to reporting restrictions, is accused of murdering Mustafa Momand in Queen’s Road, Brighton, on October 5.
Judge Christine Laing KC confirmed that a trial date is set for February 19, although the court is yet to be determined.
He pleaded not guilty at a previous hearing in Lewes Crown Court on December 16.
The defendant, wearing a black suit and tie with his hair slicked back, spoke to confirm his name in the dock this afternoon at the same court. His mother, brother and three friends were present in the public gallery.

Nathan Rasiah KC, prosecuting, expected the trial to last for around two weeks.
Mr Momand was stabbed at around 5pm on that day near Brighton Station.
Passersby tried to save him but the 17-year-old died later the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
The defendant, from Southwick, is being remanded in custody.
