Gayle and Paul Newman, who run the Ladies Mile Pub in Mackie Avenue, in Patcham, Brighton, hosted an event to thank everyone who has given them love and support over the last 20 years.

The couple were joined at the event by family, friends and customers to celebrate the anniversary and were “overwhelmed” by the gifts, speeches and messages of congratulations.

Among the surprises given to the couple was a three-night stay at a luxury hotel, spending money, and holiday vouchers.

Gayle, 52, also thanked her “loyal” team for helping run the event.

She said on a heartfelt social media post: “To all of you who’ve been there at any stage over the last 20 years!!! For all the support and love you’ve given, thank you.

“You are legends. I’d like to say here’s to another 20 years but that’s unrealistic. I’d like to think we’ve at least another 5. But however long it is… let’s make some more memories.”

She told The Argus the “Patcham community is awesome” and it has been a “contributing factor” for the couple staying so long.

The Ladies Mile Pub is owned by Leo and Leanne Day, of the Golden Lion Group.

It prides itself on being a community pub that serves fresh food and a range of beverages including cask ales.
