A national incident has been declared by the UK Health Security Agency as outbreaks may be likely to spread around the UK unless action is taken and more children are vaccinated.

People who missed the jab or are not yet vaccinated, regardless of age, are also encouraged to come forward for the free and safe vaccine.

Maria Caulfield MP said: “Measles is a serious but entirely preventable disease.

“The MMR vaccine is proven to be safe for youngsters and offers lifelong protection.

“I’m urging everyone whose child is not yet fully vaccinated to come forward and get them protected as soon as possible”.

Over 99 per cent of people who have two doses of the MMR vaccine will be protected against measles and rubella.
