University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust said that Worthing Hospital and St Richard’s A&E department in Chichester are currently “extremely busy”.
The hospital trust has said that staff are working “non-stop” to deal with these high patient levels.
A statement on the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Facebook page read: “Worthing and St Richard’s A&E departments are currently extremely busy.
“Our staff are working tirelessly to care for patients.
“Please be kind and understanding if you attend one of our hospitals.
“Only attend A&E for life threatening emergencies. #HelpUsHelpYou.”
Anyone who needs medical care that is not in a life-threatening condition can reach out to NHS 111 either online or by phone.
Help can be accessed on https://111.nhs.uk/ but people should continue to call 999 in emergencies.
