Officers from the specialist enforcement unit spotted suspicious behaviour including suspected drug deals while on patrol in the St James’s Street area in Brighton on January 4.

Two arrests were made in separate incidents as a result of their patrols, and drugs and cash were seized and will be forfeited.

Shy Ponsonby-Way, 18, formerly of an address in Brighton, was arrested and taken to police custody.

Following an investigation by the Brighton Community Investigation Team, he was charged with two counts of possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply, namely crack cocaine and heroin, as well as with possession of cannabis and acquiring or possessing criminal property.

Ponsonby-Way appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on January 5, where he was bailed to appear before Lewes Crown Court on February 2.

The second drugs suspect from a separate incident remains under investigation.

Specialist enforcement unit inspector Oliver Pullen said: “Officers made these arrests as part of our ongoing work to disrupt the supply of Class A drugs in the centre of Brighton.”
