PC Christopher Corker is charged with causing death by dangerous driving after Arthur Hoelscher-Ermert, 27, was hit by a police car on the A259 near Bramber Avenue in Peacehaven on April 30, 2022.

Corker, 39, from Worthing, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court in London today.

Arthur’s father, Prof Jens Hoelscher said the family were relieved after the officer was charged in December.

The officer was charged in December but was not named by police but his identity has been revealed in court papers and The Argus has been told that an application for anonymity is not being made.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) charged the officer following a year-long investigation by the police watchdog.

A spokesman for the Independent Office for Police Conduct said their mandatory investigation concluded 12 months after Mr Hoelscher-Ermert died.

A CPS spokesman said: “PC Christopher Corker will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today for his first appearance.

“He is charged with causing the death of Arthur Holscher-Emert by dangerous driving.”

The hearing is listed between 10am and 1pm today.
