On January 7, Kent Fire and Rescue Service tackled the blaze, believed to be started by an electrical fault.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene on Priory Road at 7.44am.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used high-pressure hose reel jets to douse the kitchen fire.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene and his death is being treated as non-suspicious.

His family have been informed and a coroner’s report has been submitted.

Firefighters left the flat at 8.44am.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called by Kent Fire and Rescue Service at 7.55am on Sunday 7 January 2024, to a house fire in Priory Road, Dartford. Patrols attended the scene where fire crews extinguished the blaze. 
 
“Paramedics also attended and a man aged in his 40s was confirmed to be deceased at the premises.

“His death is being treated as non-suspicious and a report has been completed for the Coroner.

“The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.”

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire at a flat in Priory Road, Dartford.

“Two fire engines were sent to the property and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish a fire in the kitchen.

“Sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers from Kent Police and fire investigators attended, and it’s believed the fire started accidentally.

“The cause has been linked to an electrical fault.”
