Firefighters from Bognor, Chichester and Littlehampton were called to Shripney Road in Bognor after receiving more than a dozen calls from the public.

The blaze, understood to have occurred at an accident repair centre, was quickly tackled by the fire service.

No casualties were reported and it is believed the fire was caused by accidental ignition.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 10.30am, we received 14 emergency calls alerting us of a fire in Shripney Road in Bognor.

“Joint fire control sent fire engines from Bognor, Chichester and Littlehampton to the scene, as well as a command support unit.

“Ten firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the unit and extinguished the fire, which was of accidental ignition, using hose reels and jets.

“Fortunately, there were no casualties.”

Waterfront Accident Repair Centre, based in Shripney Road, posted on Facebook confirming they had suffered a fire earlier today.

A spokesman for the company said: “We had a fire today… Everyone who’s in work got out of the flames safe and no one was hurt.”
