Gritters will be out across Kent tonight as the Met Office warns of icy conditions and wintry showers overnight and into tomorrow.

A yellow weather warning is in place for large parts of the county tomorrow morning, with plunging temperatures expected to bring challenging conditions to the roads and railways.

The forecast suggests snow could fall in some places on Monday, with sleet showers also likely in parts.

Kent Highways has confirmed it will be treating all primary routes from 9pm today in an effort to reduce the impact of the icy conditions. It is expected this will be complete by midnight, and then the roads will be re-treated from 3am tomorrow.

Similar efforts will be taking place in Medway.

The Met Office weather warning, which is in effect from 4am to 10am tomorrow, covers a significant portion of west and mid Kent, including Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone, and takes in part of Ashford.

People are warned that some roads and railways are likely to be affected by ice, and in a few places by snow, leading to longer journey times.

Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths will also make accidents or injuries more likely.
