Couple Kate and Duncan Heath, who live in Worthing and run the cabin in Ashington, near Pulborough, were crowned best new host in the Airbnb awards this year.

Duncan said: “We were so overjoyed to receive this award after opening in March this year. We planned the cabin over a few years and to see guests having such lovely holidays has made all the hard work worthwhile. We hope our second year is just as successful as this year has been.”

They beat 2,000 other UK holiday home hosts in the competition.

The cabin in Ashington is named Hazel Hide after the woodland with dozens of hazel trees nearby.

It has two storeys and can comfortably sleep four adults.

The cabin with mezzanine level has been designed by an architect from Sussex.

Kate said: “There are lots of carefully thought out finishing touches, including a hammock on the decking area for warm evenings and a sofa bed for any extra guests.

“Heating is provided via a log-burning fire to keep guests warm on cold nights and solar panels provide the cabin with electricity.”

There is also a bespoke kitchen which has everything guests need for a short break and a carefully designed bathroom includes a shower for rural luxury.

Duncan added: “Ashington is the perfect location as the larger villages of Storrington and Steyning are just a short drive or cycle away.

“There are a variety of stunning woodland walks surrounding the cabin, as well as local vineyards to visit and explore and a fabulous pub restaurant close by.”

The awards, run by Airbnb, shine a light on hosts who deserve recognition for the experience they provide for guests.

This year’s categories included best design stay, best room Host, best sustainable stay and the most unique stay.

Amanda Cupples, general manager for Airbnb in Northern Europe, said: “We are delighted to recognise hosts in the Airbnb community for their hospitality and dedication to the Hosting community. It is uplifting to see the huge dedication put into each listing which truly offers each and every guest a unique experience.”
