Gillingham’s game at Barrow this Saturday has been postponed.

The decision was announced over 24 hours before the scheduled weekend fixture in order to prevent any unnecessary travel.

It’s a 660-mile round trip for the Gills and the team were due to leave on the Friday.

Barrow say their pitch was deemed unplayable on Friday afternoon, with rain forecast throughout the day and into Saturday.

Cumbria was hit hard with wintry weather last week.

A Barrow statement said: “ Our SkyBet League Two fixture due to take place against Gillingham tomorrow (Saturday) has been called off.

“Having conducted a pitch inspection at the SO Legal Stadium earlier this afternoon we can confirm that the pitch has been deemed unplayable in its current state.

“To avoid travelling fans coming up we’ve made the decision to call off tomorrow’s game to give fans plenty of notice.

“A rearranged date for the fixture, and ticket information for that match will be released in due course.”

Gillingham have said that tickets will remain valid for the rearranged game but refunds will be available to anyone who can’t attend.

The Gills will next be in action at home to Bradford City on Saturday, December 16.
