The Argus revealed last month that Ikea will open a store in Churchill Square after its parent company Ingka bought the shopping centre.

It will be the third city centre branch to open in the UK and while a fixed date has not yet been set, we do know roughly when to expect the Swedish furniture brand to launch in our city.

A spokeswoman for Ikea said: “The opening date for the Ikea store is yet to be confirmed but, as our third city store, it will follow the opening of our Oxford Street store.

“The exact date will be shared in due course.”

The store in Oxford Street, London, was set to open at the end of this year however it has now been pushed back until autumn 2024.

It means the Brighton site may not open until early 2025.

Peter van der Poel, managing director at Ingka, said the delay is to ensure refurbishment of the historic building is completed sympathetically and to allow time to bring the space up to modern standards.
