A big crowd’s expected at Gillingham this Saturday for the FA Cup visit of rivals Charlton – who have sold out the away end.
Capacity in the Town End is restricted due to the top section being out of action on safety grounds but all available away tickets have been snapped up by Addicks’ fans, with over 1,500 making the trip to Priestfield.
Charlton announced to their fans that no additional tickets would be made available after selling out their initial allocation of 1,512, as Gillingham supporters are also expected to attend in big numbers for the derby fixture, but an extra 96 were later secured on Wednesday afternoon, taking their total numbers to 1,608.
Gillingham head coach Stephen Clemence knows having their own fans behind them will be crucial against a side from the level above.
“It will be a tough game,” said Clemence. “I know Michael Appleton (the Charlton manager) very well, he seems to have got them going since he has gone in there and I’m looking forward to the game.
“We are at home so let’s go and try and see if we can do well against them but it will be a difficult game.
“The more fans we have that come and support us the better and if they can be our 12th man then fantastic.”
Gillingham have lost some capacity in the Gordon Road Stand for Saturday’s game due to the need for TV cameras to take up some sections, with the tie selected for live television coverage overseas.
Season ticket holders had until Monday to secure their seat for the match with the remaining tickets now on general sale, priced at £17 adult, £14 seniors, £10 under18s and £5 under-14s.
