Lush hair salon opens in Brighton with cafe, shop and spa

Lush Hair Lab opened its doors in Trafalgar Street, Brighton today.

Shoppers filled out the salon to browse the natural hair products, try drinks from the café and look at the hairdressing area.

Ash Davies, salon manager at Lush Hair Lab, told The Argus: “We are so happy to have finally opened in Brighton.

“It is the perfect place for us.”

He said the company is working with local businesses and has hired stylists from the city.

The café serves coffee from The Milk Shed, a Kemp Town coffee roaster, and juices made by the Brighton Raw Juice Co in Hove.

Next to the café is the shop, where people can browse the range of hair care products including items exclusive to the Hair Lab.

On the right hand side is the salon where customers can get their hair coloured, cut or styled.

At the back is the Botanical Washroom – which is what Ash is most excited about.

“The Botanical Washroom is a hair washing station with a difference – clients will be surrounded by lush greenery and fragrant botanicals while their hair and scalp are treated,” he said.

“It’s like a spa for your hair and scalp.

“Clients can choose hard or soft water and have their hair washed with Lush’s award-winning hair care products and herbal infusions for a revitalising and soothing experience.”

Brighton has the fourth hardest water in the UK and hard water can make thick hair flat, Ash said, “so it is great to have the choice”.

Ash, who trained as a hairstylist with Toni and Guy, has been working with Lush since.

“Here I get the opportunity to merge my love for hairdressing and wellbeing with the power of natural products,” he said.

Lush is a cruelty free brand and has been fighting animal testing since it launched in 1995 – so the café is vegan and serves all its drinks with vegan milk alternatives.

The vegan pastries are from The Flour Pot, a Brighton bakery.

“We believe in the magic of nature and the power of five-star customer experience, with a carefully curated range of botanical infusions and products to leave your hair looking and feeling its absolute best,” said Ash.

“From revitalising scalp massages to freshly made hair masks, your appointment is customised to your unique needs and preferences, ensuring that you leave with hair that is truly magnificent.”

The new salon will follow this ethos and will not use any chemical hair dyes. It plans to recycle 100 per cent of its waste.

Hair cuttings, which are typically sent to landfill, will be collected by the Green Salon Collective, a company which helps hairdressers dispose of their waste.

The waste hair will be made into wefts which can then be used to soak up oil, including in ocean oil spills.

    • Haircuts including “a full botanical wash room experience” start from £85
    • Hair colouring using Lush’s natural herbal dyes start from £80
    • Lush Hair Lab is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 7pm and on Sundays from 10am to 5pm
