Yesterday (May 1), voters across Dartford went to the polls to choose their next county councillors. Thomas Mallon was declared the winner after today’s (May 2) count at Dartford Civic Centre and will continue as the Reform UK representative for Swanscombe & Greenhithe. The total number of votes for Swanscombe & Greenhithe was 3,649, with Mallon winning 1,245 votes. Ballots were verified from 10am today with counting beginning just after 11.40am at Dartford Civic Centre. Polling stations were open from 7am until 10pm yesterday. The Bank of England has voted to reduce the Base Rate by 0.25% for the second time this year, taking it to 4.25%. Base Rate was held at 4.5% in March after it was cut by 0.25% in February. The Bank meets every six weeks to decide what should happen to interest rates, with the aim of keeping inflation to its target and keeping the wider economy healthy.
