The incident happened on the London-bound carriageway near the A2018 just after 7.30am today (April 8). Officers and South East Coast Ambulance crews attended and found the rider of the motorcycle injured. He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment where he remains. Closures were put in place which caused delays of up to 60 minutes and four miles of congestion. Officers received a report that between February 27 and 28, a man in his 50s “made advances” towards the woman in William Road, Chichester. The man reportedly had delivered goods to an address in the street and enquiries to identify him are ongoing. Police are now looking to identify the man pictured in connection with their enquiries. Handbag thief  Gerald Underhill, 60, of Canadian Avenue in Catford, admitted stealing a woman’s handbag in Lewisham on August 18 last year.  Underhill was given a four month prison sentence.  Chislehurst thief  Leon Levien, 51, of Mottingham Road in Mottingham, pleaded guilty to three thefts and one burglary all carried out at in Co-op and BP stores in Chislehurst and a Co-op in Mottingham.  Levien was given a four-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months.  Greenwich Boots thief  Denise Doyley, 44, of Lewisham High Street, admitted four thefts from Boots in Greenwich throughout March, stealing over £1,500 worth of stock. …

A section of the A23 northbound was closed near Hurstpierpoint yesterday due to a 400-litre fuel spillage and a broken-down HGV lorry.  The closure was in place from the A273 to the B2117 Brighton Road. Emergency resurfacing commenced this morning to repair the damage caused by the incident and National Highways said the road would be closed for several hours.
