David Alexander Average house prices for Scottish new builds have now far outstripped prices for existing homes, according to analysis of the most recent statistics by DJ Alexander. The agency said that the latest data from the monthly house price index shows that between February 2024 and January 2025 (the latest period for which there is data) the average price of a new build in Scotland increased by £53,939 from £281,508 to £335,447, which is a 19.2% rise over 12 months. A new Shared Ownership Code has launched, designed to improve the experience of shared owners and promote best practice across the sector. The code, developed by the Shared Ownership Council, follows an 18-month consultation with customers, housing providers, mortgage lenders and sector specialists. New powers could soon come into force in Great Yarmouth to crack down on unscrupulous landlords and improve housing conditions, the Eastern Daily Press reports. Great Yarmouth Borough Council is considering an expansion of its selective licensing scheme to cover around 5,000 privately rented homes in the Nelson, Cobholm and Southtown and Central and Northgate wards – areas identified as among the most deprived in England.
