New analysis from UK Finance highlights the impact of family financial support in the first-time buyer (FTB) market – often known as the Bank of Mum and Dad. UK Finance looked at assisted and unassisted buyers in terms of deposits, age, household income and purchase price in 2024 and found notable differences across these in each region of the UK as shown in the table below. Nationally, first-time buyers who receive assistance are able to buy a home at an average age of just over 30, with an average household income of £56,000. Ahead of the sanctions compliance deadline this week, property transaction services provider Coadjute is urging letting agents to take action to ensure they are fully prepared for the new regulatory requirements. From 14 May, letting agents will be required to screen all landlords, tenants, and — where applicable — beneficial owners of corporate landlords or tenants against the UK Sanctions List. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has to the decision by National Trading Standards (NTS) to withdraw material information guidance for estates and lettings professionals, stating that it creates uncertainty for our members and consumers.
