British Transport Police has reported “several incidents” of people being approached by a man or woman asking them to withdraw cash, under the guise of being stranded or having had their card stolen.  The person promises to return the money via bank transfer however this does not occur.  People have been warned not to withdraw money if approached by people in these circumstances.  A crime prevention notice has been taped to Budgens in Queens Road, next to Brighton Station.  A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Officers received reports in July and August 2025 of a woman committing fraud…

The Bank of England has voted to reduce the Base Rate by 0.25% for the third time this year, taking it to 4%. Base Rate was held at 4.25% in June after it was cut by 0.25% in May.  The Bank meets every six weeks to decide what should happen to interest rates, with the aim of keeping inflation to its target and keeping the wider economy healthy.
