As part of our 145th birthday celebrations, we asked readers to share their fond memories of appearing in the paper. Caroline Carter appeared on the cover of the then Evening Argus on August 28, 1976 with her mum Sheila while out in Castle Square in Brighton. The beautiful black and white shot shows Caroline’s mum looking glamorous with a headscarf and mac holding hands with three-year-old Caroline whilst cowering under umbrellas. The summer of 1976 was one of the driest, sunniest and warmest in the 20th century. In the last week of August 1976, severe thunderstorms brought rain to some places for the first…

It was not to be for the Albion last night. Matz Sels was Nottingham Forest’s penalty hero yet again as they reached the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in 34 years. The Belgian goalkeeper saved spot-kicks from Jack Hinshelwood and Diego Gomez as Forest beat Brighton 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw at the Amex Stadium. He had Forest partying like it was 1991, the last time they reached the last four of the competition under Brian Clough. Brighton had most of the ball yet were doing very little with it and Forest were happy to let…
