The recent decision by Wallet of Satoshi to stop serving customers in the United States brings us to a crossroads in the evolution of Lightning’s use as a consumer tool. While it is trusted and custodial, Wallet of Satoshi has been invaluable in giving casual users a functional and reliable tool for small value payments made across the Lightning Network. This departure from serving the US will leave a massive hole in the Lightning toolbox for American Bitcoiners. Custodial tools are not the ideal type of tool, especially for anything beyond small amounts, but it is impossible to deny they…
NASA / Jasmin Moghbeli City lights stretch across the United States like a string of holiday lights in this image taken from the International Space Station on Nov. 10, 2023. At far left, the lights of Chicago, Illinois, are outlined by Lake Michigan. At far right, the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area shines through the clouds while the sun’s first rays start to light up Earth’s atmosphere (at top). Since the two Outer Banks co-stars spend time together on set, Kelsea, 30, explained how her first meeting with Madelyn, 25, went. “I met [Madelyn], and I talked to her, and she’s lovely and I think she’s wildly talented,” Kelsea said during her November 29 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “I think the internet did its best to make it really weird, and it just didn’t work…
As part of an international law enforcement investigation, the FBI and the Dutch Financial Intelligence and Investigation Service have seized the websites of a crypto mixer that was allegedly used by North Korean hackers and several cybercriminals to launder stolen funds and obfuscate transactions. On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the government’s department that administers and enforces sanctions against foreign people and organizations, announced that it had sanctioned Sinbad, a Bitcoin mixer that “serves as a key money-laundering tool” for the Lazarus Group, a prolific hacking group widely believed to be working…
This limited uptake has restricted the industry from benefiting significantly from the technology, such as reduced fees, instant access to cash flow, and elimination of chargeback risk. Underpay has adopted a consumer-centric approach to this technology, creating a product and business model focused on a straightforward question: why should consumers opt for Open Banking payments over traditional card methods? Dima Tarasenko, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Underpay, stated: “Consumers just want the cheapest, fastest, and safest way to pay, and merchants want to sell easily and to sell more. The technology is only important in the context of serving those goals.”…
