Omniplex Cinema Group, which is Ireland’s largest cinema company, is expanding into Britain by acquiring five Empire Cinema locations. Clydebank’s Empire Cinema is joining the group and open on December 10, and more locations will be announced in 2024. We previously reported that Empire Cinema had been put on the market after going into administration.  It comes as Omniplex Cinema Group is making a total investment of £22.5 million over eighteen months to acquire and renovate these existing locations. Temperatures are set to drop to -4C overnight in some parts of Sussex after light snow fell across Sussex yesterday morning for the first time of the season. There were reports of black ice in the Crawley area this morning, causing dangerous driving conditions. Researchers at the University of Sydney Nano Institute have invented a compact silicon semiconductor chip that integrates electronics with photonic, or light, components. The new technology significantly expands radio-frequency (RF) bandwidth and the ability to accurately control information flowing through the unit. Expanded bandwidth means more information can flow through the chip and the inclusion of photonics allows for advanced filter controls, creating a versatile new semiconductor device.
