Allen Career Institute has acquired Doubtnut in a deal that values the young edtech at $10 million, according to a person familiar with the matter, a reversal of fortune for the once promising edtech leading app. The two firms confirmed the deal on Monday, but declined to share financial terms of the acquisition. Seven-year-old Doubtnut, whose learning app helps students solve math and science problems by taking photos of them, had raised more than $52 million prior to the acquisition and counted Peak XV Partners and James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems among its backers. As the market turned, Doubtnut engaged with…

It seems that AI is everywhere and in everything: it’s critical for managing complex infrastructures like vehicle charging networks and the green grid; it’s getting things done in business; and it’s the essential ingredient needed to sell high-tech products. Although we may now be familiar – maybe even bored – with the acronym, the technology is here to stay and is already embedded in many products and services we use daily. Services like email filtering, shopping recommendations, and virtual assistants typified by Alexa and Siri have incorporated AI for some time. They deliver natural experiences that many of us take…

Two brothers, responsible for the theft of $8.5 million from decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Platypus, were allowed to walk free with no repercussions by a French court. On Feb. 16, hackers managed to drain and move $8.5 million from Platypus through a flash loan attack, forcing the protocol to suspend trading services until a resolution was found. Initial investigations identified Mohammed M. as the culprit, who took advantage of a code error and withdrew all assets through an uncollateralized loan. #CertiKSkynetAlert We are seeing a #flashloan attack on @Platypusdefi resulting in a potential loss of ~$8.5M.Tx AVAX: 0x1266a937c2ccd970e5d7929021eed3ec593a95c68a99b4920c2efa226679b430Stay Frosty! pic.twitter.com/AM2HOM5M2r— CertiK…

Hydrogen is a building block for the energy transition. To obtain it with the help of solar energy, LMU researchers have developed new high-performance nanostructures. The material holds a world record for green hydrogen production with sunlight. When Emiliano Cortés goes hunting for sunlight, he doesn’t use gigantic mirrors or solar farms. Quite the contrary, the professor of experimental physics and energy conversion at LMU dives into the nanocosmos. “Where the high-energy particles of sunlight meet atomic structures is where our research begins,” Cortés says. “We are working on material solutions to use solar energy more efficiently.” His findings have…

With the theme of “weather”, the range of snaps we received was so impressive – from storm Ciaran at the start of the month, to the first frosts of the season, to some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. As ever, it was tough to pick just a few runners-up and crown one snapper the winner of the November competition. We loved Annette Radford’s snap of people taking shelter under some umbrella-shaped trees in a storm in Preston Park – it was so clever. Janet Obyrne’s shot of Meeting House Lane off North Street captured the atmosphere of Brighton after a storm…
