COVID-19 caused an alarming surge in premature births, but vaccines were key to returning the early birth rate to pre-pandemic levels, according to a new analysis of California birth records. “The effect of maternal COVID infection from the onset of the pandemic into 2023 is large, increasing the risk of preterm births over that time by 1.2 percentage points,” says Jenna Nobles, a University of Wisconsin-Madison sociology professor. “To move the needle on preterm birth that much is akin to a disastrous environmental exposure, like weeks of breathing intense wildfire smoke.” But the first two years of the pandemic alone…

The case was picked up during a routine surveillance in GP surgeries.  The person, who is not known to have worked with pigs, suffered a mild illness and has made a full recovery. The UKHSA said it is now carrying out contact tracing of close contacts to prevent further spread of the virus. Foxconn plans to invest $1.54 billion in India, the latest in its growing expansion plan, following a surge in revenues in the South Asian market. The Kew Gardens 2009 50 pence piece has been labelled by the Royal Mint as the rarest coin in circulation due to there only being a few hundred thousand minted.  The rare coin features a design celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Botanical Garden, depicting the pagoda at Kew with a decorative leafy climber twining in and around the tower.
