It can make for interesting debates, engaging political theatre, but under first past the post, also in decision-making which leaves residents frustrated as they see one party push through policy firmly opposed by opposition parties and the voters they represent. Here in Brighton and Hove, for example, Labour now has 38 of 54 councillors; despite winning less than half of the votes at the last council elections; it can pretty much take the city in whatever direction it chooses. Compare that with 2019 when the Greens secured 52 per cent of votes and only 19 councillors and you can see…

Image Credit: Reynaud Julien/APS-Medias/ABACA/Shutterstock North West is brutally honest to a fault. In the November 23 episode of The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian brings North, 10, along as she has a fitting for her 2023 Met Gala dress. Kim, 43, shows off her Schiaparelli dress made of 50,000 freshwater pearls. Kim meets with Daniel Roseberry, the creative director of Schiaparelli, and North makes sure Daniel knows her opinion. North tells Daniel that her mom’s dress could be “a little better.” Kim says North has some notes about the pearls. “The pearls look fake,” North quips. Kim quickly reminds her daughter that…

An accomplished MIT student researcher in health care robotics, with many scholarship and fellowship awards to his name, A. Michael West is nonchalant about how he chose his path. “I kind of fell into it,” the mechanical engineering PhD candidate says, adding that growing up in suburban California, he was social, athletic — and good at math. “I had the classic choice: You can be a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer.” Having witnessed his mother’s grueling residency when she was training to be a doctor, and feeling like he didn’t enjoy reading and writing enough to be a lawyer,…

The survey, which included over 1,000 workers and 500 employers in the UK, found that a significant number of British workers (33%) have embraced a more relaxed dress code, often working in their pyjamas. On average, employees wear pyjamas 46 times a year, with about 8% doing so daily. Interestingly, nearly half of the employers surveyed expressed concerns that post-pandemic, employees have taken the casual work dress code to an extreme. Approximately 29% have implemented or considered enforcing a strict dress code in response. Employers have identified pyjamas as the least appropriate work attire, followed by unwashed or messy hair.…

Don’t worry, this isn’t an article to either espouse or attack the current global climate change agenda. Debating whether the earth will perish in a few years or not isn’t my plan. While not only being a believer and investor in the Bitcoin ecosystem, I am also an avid supporter of start-ups and innovators supporting green technologies to provide for a more energy efficient future. Here I simply want to discuss how Bitcoiners should adopt the concepts quite effectively applied by the global climate change movement under their green investment proposals to also promote expanded Bitcoin adoption. These are techniques…

[LONDON] A new UK-based science and innovation hub led by global agricultural research organisations will drive advances in climate-resilient crops to help tackle the world’s food crisis, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told a summit in London. Less than seven years ahead of the UN’s 2030 goal of ending hunger and malnutrition, more than 258 million people are at imminent risk of starvation, according to the World Food Programme. Droughts and floods caused by climate change, along with conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war, are fuelling the crisis, which is most severely affecting children, the Global Food Security Summit heard…
