The advent of the Internet combined with the ability to customise items such as clothing long ago created a revolution in marketing, especially for merchandise purposes. I think we’re all familiar with the ‘merch’ phenomena by now, no? Benefitting from that long-term trend is SME-focused, customized merchandise startupBizay, which has been able to raise a significant funding round, even in this relatively flat market of 2023. Following a Series C of $38.6 million (€32 million), which I reported on in 2020, the Lisbon, Portugal-based startup has now raised a Series “C2” (not yet a full series D) of €18 million…
Competition is inevitable in many aspects of life, including at work. However, there are occasions where support is needed that does not come with any ulterior motives. Mentorship is one of those – it can be an effective tool in creating inclusive workplace cultures, but its success is dependent on how it is understood and implemented. Mentors will only take on the role to assist and support others if the initiative has been rolled out effectively and their perception is positive, but not all mentors take an altruistic approach. Sometimes, mentors start to compete with their mentees, which can be…

Another jam-packed year is in store for NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida as the momentum of a busy 2023 is carried forward into the new year. On the horizon are missions to the Moon, more crew and cargo flights to the International Space Station, and several upgrade projects across the spaceport. NASA’s first CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) initiative mission with Astrobotic’s Peregrine lunar lander is set to begin work in 2024 after lifting off on the inaugural launch of United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan Centaur rocket. These missions will help the agency develop capabilities needed to explore the Moon…

Image Credit: AFF-USA/Shutterstock Road trip! Kate Bosworth, 40, and Justin Long, 45, looked so in love as they took to social media to share that they ate their way across the country during a fun couple’s getaway. In a car selfie you can see below, Justin stuck his tongue out as he sat behind the wheel, while Kate dropped her jaw to imitate their dog, who sat, mouth open, in the back. A second pic showed the adorable couple posing outside Long’s Bakery, and another showed them enjoying ramen noodles. They sweetly snuggled up for a pic in Oklahoma, and shared another…
Startups that find product-market fit can do well in any industry, but that’s not enough if you’re a web3 company. No, you have to go beyond and find real use cases for the emerging technology. And according to Staci Warden, CEO of Algorand Foundation, the startups that went after real use cases — like asset tokenization — will grow, particularly now that the crypto industry is striving to emerge from the bear market. There’s a lot more activity during bull markets as crypto tourists enter the industry in hopes of making it big. But that energy tapered off over the…
Flexa’s comprehensive year-end report was compiled from an analysis of a record 9,300 job adverts, 2.8 million job searches, and preferences from over 27,000 job seekers, collected from January to November 2023. The report reveals a shift toward shorter working weeks in 2023. Initially, half of the workers preferred part-time work, but by November, this figure dropped to 37%. Moreover, demand for a 4-day working week has been steady since Flexa began tracking it in April, with around 48% of job seekers favoring it by November. Mars, CoppaFeel, and Huel are among the companies open to part-time job applicants, reflecting…
Credit: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain Earlier this month, a Senate inquiry recommended Australian students get specific lessons in how to behave. Following concerns about increasing levels of disruptive behavior in Australian schools at both primary and high school levels, the inquiry wants to see “the explicit teaching of behavior [as a] vital component of the Australian Curriculum.” This would mean behavior would be part of the curriculum just like English, math and science. Is this a good idea? What might it involve? What was recommended? The Liberal-chaired Senate’s education committee has been looking at school behavior this year. In December, it…
