The earth’s internal layers. NASA. Credit: Goddard Media Studios Scientists have dated the birth of the solar system to about 4.57 billion years ago. About 60 million years later a “giant impact” collision between the infant Earth and a Mars-sized body called Theia created the moon. Now, new research suggests that the remains of the large object that collided with the young Earth to form the moon are still identifiable deep within the planet as two large lumps. These lumps make up about 8% of the volume of the Earth’s mantle, which is the rocky zone between the Earth’s iron…

Lee Rice and Marie Brazier bought dud bullets from military memorabilia sites and used them to create live ammunition to be used in their guns. The guns were made from scratch and sold out of their factory in Hailsham. Three other men helped to make and distribute the firearms. A trial at Hove Crown Court heard that more than 350 rounds were bought over a five-month period in 2018. We’re accustomed to seeing accelerators work for companies disrupting travel, payment processing or cloud storage, but what if that model could work outside the ambit of the VC mill? What if a little bit of investment, a splash of mentoring and practical support, a slew of introductions,…

Bitcoin (BTC) is on target to end the week with gains of about 6%, indicating continued demand from the bulls. MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor said during a speech at the 2023 Australia Crypto Convention on Nov. 10 that Bitcoin’s demand on a monthly basis could surge between two to 10 times by the end of 2024. Additionally, the halving will reduce the supply by half. Saylor expects both these events will cause the price “to adjust up.” With almost a general consensus that Bitcoin’s price will move higher in 2024, analysts are busy projecting how high the rally could reach. Weather extremes, such as heatwaves and torrential rainfalls, are becoming more frequent and more intense across the United States under climate change. In late September of this year, flash-flooding surged down neighborhood streets and subway stairways in New York City, as a historic rainfall led to canceled flights and closed roads and city officials urged people to stay at home or shelter in place. Some areas of the city saw up to 2.58 inches of rain in one day, nearly 50% more than the city sewer system’s maximum capacity, causing wastewater problems for many low-lying homes and businesses. Intuitively, when…
