Scientists conduct grassland sampling surveys in Xilingol. Credit: AIR In a study published in Remote Sensing, scientists from the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have employed a Desertification Difference Index (DDI) model to better understand and combat global grassland desertification. The study focused on extracting desertification information using albedo-EVI in Xilingol, north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, offering insights into the spatial and temporal dynamics of desertified grasslands (DGLs). We previously reported that Bowling railway station had closed earlier today due to ‘very deep’ flooding making it unsafe to run trains through the area.  Water levels nearly reach the platforms (Image: Colin Mearns) Exclusive images taken by our photographer show the scale of the issue with water levels almost reaching the platforms.  Rail bosses said that engineers were on their way to the station this afternoon to carry out further inspections.
