The IBD Process Synchronizing a new node to the network tip involves several distinct stages: Peer discovery and chain selection where the node connects to random peers and determines the most-work chain. Header download when block headers are fetched and connected to form the full header chain. Block download when the node requests blocks belonging to that chain from multiple peers simultaneously. Block and transaction validation where each block’s transactions are verified before the next one is processed. While block validation itself is inherently sequential, each block depends on the state produced by the previous one, much of the surrounding…
The incident involving a silver Ford Transit van happened on the eastbound carriageway near Chichester at about 5.30am today (March 11). A 53-year-old man from Portsmouth, the driver of the van, was declared dead at the scene, police said. Police at the scene (Image: Supplied) “His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time,” a Sussex Police spokesman said. Road closures were in place from Warblington in the west to Fishbourne in the east while emergency services responded. As of Wednesday afternoon the closure was still in place while recovery took place. Officers…
In today’s tech industry, many CEOs are as famous as the companies they run. Leaders like Elon Musk and Sam Altman have built massive personal brands, often becoming the public face of their companies and the wider tech industry. In reality, they’re nothing short of celebrities, with cult-like followings that are difficult to believe. But, despite running one of the most powerful companies on the planet, Google and its parent company Alphabet, Sundar Pichai stands in great contrast to many of his colleagues. He simply doesn’t command the same cult-like following. Alphabet is currently valued at roughly $3 trillion, putting…
A medication called sulthiame may help people with obstructive sleep apnea breathe more easily during the night and sleep better overall. The findings come from a European clinical trial in which the University of Gothenburg played an important role. Researchers say the results raise the possibility of a drug treatment for patients who struggle to tolerate breathing masks. The study results were published in The Lancet. A total of 298 people with moderate to severe sleep apnea participated in the trial. One quarter of the participants received a placebo, while the rest were treated with different doses of sulthiame. The…
Young adults growing up in the attention economy — preparing for adult life, with social media and chatbots competing for their attention — can easily fall into unhealthy relationships with digital platforms. But what if chatbots weren’t mere distractions from real life? Could they be designed humanely, as moral partners whose digital goal is to be a social guide rather than an addictive escape? At MIT, a friendship between two professors — one an anthropologist, the other a computer scientist — led to creation of an undergraduate class that set out to find the answer to those questions. Combining the two…
Los Angeles-based EV startup Harbinger has revealed its second vehicle: a smaller, medium-duty work truck. Called the HC Series Cab, the new truck will be available as an all-electric vehicle, or as a hybrid (the latter has up to 500 miles of range). The company says the vehicle features easy entry and exit, a tight turning radius, and the ability to upfit the chassis in various ways, like adding cargo boxes or flatbeds. The company did not reveal pricing. “For too long, fleets have had to compromise between payload, maneuverability, range and onboard capability,” Harbinger’s co-founder and CEO, John Harris,…
Key Aspects: MSC Seashore dealt with a possible overboard situation while sailing away from MSC Ocean Cay. Emergency protocols were quickly enacted, including turning around to search the suspected fall area. Ultimately, video surveillance and a headcount of all passengers confirmed that this was a false alarm. Just one day after embarking on a 4-night Bahamas sailing, MSC Seashore experienced a possible overboard situation. Thankfully, it was only a false alarm. A report was made that a male guest had fallen overboard from Deck 8 in the early morning hours of March 10, 2026. “A man has reportedly fallen overboard,…
Lucid Motors will ship a software update to North American owners of its Gravity SUV on Thursday that will enable Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the company announced Wednesday morning. Owners in Europe and the Middle East will receive the update in “late March.” The phone-mirroring features have previously been available on Lucid Motors’ sedan, the Lucid Air. But the company has spent the early months of the newer Gravity SUV ironing out a number of software issues, which became a significant enough crisis that Lucid Motors’ interim CEO apologized to owners. The company recently let a number of its…
Lobsters are indeed popping up everywhere in China right now—on and offline. In February, for instance, the entrepreneur and tech influencer Fu Sheng hosted a livestream showing off OpenClaw’s capabilities that got 20,000 views. And just last weekend, Xie attended three different OpenClaw events in Shenzhen, each drawing more than 500 people. These self-organized, unofficial gatherings feature power users, influencers, and sometimes venture capitalists as speakers. The biggest event Xie attended, on March 7, drew more than 1,000 people; in the packed venue, he says, people were shoulder to shoulder, with many attendees unable to even get a seat. Now…
