Liverpool prospect Dominic Corness has joined Gillingham on loan for the rest of the season.
The 21-year-old midfielder joins on transfer deadline day and arrives at Gillingham eager to make an impact in the Football League.
The new signing was nicknamed “The Wand” in Liverpool’s academy due to the player’s impressive passing ability.
He’s the second new arrival on the final day of the transfer window after Andy Smith signed on loan from Hull City.
It takes Gillingham’s incoming total during the window to five with Asher Agbinone, Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Nelson Khumbeni also arriving at Priestfield.
Left-footer Corness has been with Liverpool since the age of five and has continued to impress through the ranks, up to the under-21s, earning a place in the England under-20 side.
He signed a professional contract at Liverpool in 2021 but has yet to make an appearance for the first-team.
Corness, who can also operate as a left-back, played for Liverpool under-21s in three of their EFL Trophy matches this season, scoring a goal against Crewe, and all eight of his previous games for them came in the competition.
Liverpool’s description of him on their official website says: “The Scouser provides excellent deliveries from set-pieces and is blessed with great vision, and once scored twice directly from corners for the U18s during a game against Stoke City.”
He went out on loan to Swiss Super League side Yverdon Sport last season for first-team experience.
