Jim Dickson MP has written to Cllr Peter Osborne, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, raising long-standing safety concerns about the junction of Princes Road and Darenth Road.

Mr Dickson warns that the latest crash “adds to a growing number of accidents” at the site. In his letter, Mr Dickson says he is “increasingly concerned that the current road layout and traffic arrangements present an ongoing risk to motorists, pedestrians, and other road users”.

He also insists the issues residents have “repeatedly raised” about the junction must now be treated as a priority.

The MP is calling for Kent County Council to carry out an urgent review and set out what assessments have already been completed, and whether any changes – such as safety improvements or traffic management measures – are actively being considered to reduce the risk of further serious crashes.

On May 25, e-scooter rider Tommy Jarvis was involved in a crash with a fire engine. The 21-year-old was rushed to hospital in critical condition, and he later died just two days later.

Following the incident, Mr Dickson said he was “deeply saddened” to hear of the crash and that his thoughts were with the injured person and their family and friends.

Tommy has since been remembered in a heartfelt tribute by close friend Lily May Lee, who described him as a man “with so much life ahead of him”.

She shared that he was “surrounded by so much unconditional love” during his final days in hospital as his family stayed by his side.

In his letter, Mr Dickson requested “an urgent on site meeting” with the relevant highways officers at the junction itself, saying such a visit would be helpful to “discuss the concerns directly, review the location in person, and consider what measures may be necessary to improve safety for all road users”.

He added: “Given the urgency of the situation and the continued occurrence of accidents, I would appreciate an update at the earliest opportunity with officers’ availability for a site meeting. I look forward to hearing from you.”
