The attack happened around 7.30pm on Wednesday, 1 July, 2026 on the footpath at The Murray Road, near its junction with Westwood Hill.
The 42-year-old victim was approached and assaulted by two men while out walking.
He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment for serious injuries.
Detective Constable Ross Burgess said:
“This was a violent attack which left the victim with serious injuries and it is vital we trace the individuals responsible.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen two men around The Murray Road or Westwood Hill area on Wednesday evening to please come forward.
“In particular, we would like to hear from anyone with private CCTV or dash-cam footage which could be of significance to this investigation.”
The first suspect is described as a white male, around 5ft 10in tall, of slim build, wearing a black tammy hat and a blue or grey jumper.
The second is described as a white male, around 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, wearing a blue or grey hat and a light blue top.
Police have been reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
