Wealden District Council has said that a vehicle operated by its environmental service response contractor Biffa was involved in the collision this morning on the A267.
The incident occurred at the Boship Roundabout in Lower Dicker, Hailsham, at around 9.25am.
A 53-year-old man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for Wealden District Council said: “We have been informed by our contractor Biffa that one of its vehicles, which provides environmental response services on behalf of the council, was involved in a serious road traffic collision on the A267 this morning close to the Boship Roundabout services.
“We understand the collision involved a motorcyclist who has sadly since died.
“Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic incident.
“The incident is being investigated by Sussex Police, Biffa is assisting fully with their enquiries, and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.
“We understand that the collection crew involved are being supported following the incident and ask that the privacy of those affected is respected at this difficult time.”
A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed it had treated a patient at the scene.
They added: “Ambulance crews were joined at the scene by the Air Ambulance Charity, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and assessed and treated one patient.
“Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, the patient died at the scene.”
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services were called to the Boship Roundabout in Lower Dicker, Hailsham, on Thursday July 2 at around 9.25am to a report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry.
“A 53-year-old man has sadly been declared deceased at the scene. His next of kin are aware and our thoughts remain with his family during this time.
“No arrests have been made.”
The road remains closed while crash investigation work is carried out.
