The Bro Code, a workshop designed to tackle misogyny and promote healthy relationships, has been introduced to pupils in East Dunbartonshire through its first session.
Held at Douglas Academy in Milngavie, the session brought together students from secondary schools across the area to explore issues around respect and healthy relationships.
Developed by playwright Alan Bissett and depute head teacher Kimberley Roan, the Bro Code forms part of a wider educational effort and complements existing programmes like Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) and Equally Safe at School.
Councillor Lynda Williamson, convener of education, said: “The positive feedback from staff and pupils following the first Bro Code workshop has been extremely encouraging, and it was great to bring young people from across East Dunbartonshire to work through the session together at Douglas Academy.
“The programme is designed to provide young people with the language required to identify and resist misogyny, and the session has helped develop their resilience against peer pressure and negative online influence.
“Both boys and girls found the workshop to be a safe space in which they could speak honestly, building their confidence to confront harmful stereotypes both at school and in the wider community.
“Following the success of the Respect and Healthy Relationships session, we plan to hold further workshops in the Bro Code series in the next academic year.”
