Police Scotland is asking the public for help as enquiries into the incident, which occurred on the A714 near Wigtown, continue.
The force received a report of a crash involving a silver Renault Megane around 8.35 pm on Saturday, 27 June.
The 26-year-old driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by air ambulance.
He was treated for serious injuries.

Road Policing Sergeant David Kerr said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicle prior, and who hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.
“Additionally, I would appeal to anyone who was driving in the area and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
