The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning until 11pm tonight (June 27).

It comes after extreme heat warnings have been in place across Sussex this week.

The warning covers part of Sussex, with strong gusty winds and heavy rain also possible.

Met Office issues thunderstorm warning for Sussex tonight

The warning covers East Sussex and part of West Sussex.

Areas not covered include Chichester and Petersfield, as well as some surrounding areas.

The Met Office said: “Today’s heat and humidity has resulted in the development of some thunderstorms, which will move rapidly northeastwards across central and eastern parts of England this evening.

“Most places will not be impacted, but where they occur brief periods of frequent lightning, strong gusty winds, large hail and heavy rain are possible.

“Thunderstorms are expected to clear the area later this evening, over the North Sea.”

The warning comes at the same time as an amber warning for extreme heat, which remains in place until 9am tomorrow (June 28) after it was extended by the Met Office.

Temperatures overnight Saturday into Sunday remain unlikely to fall below the high teens for most, with a few places not dropping below 20C.

This will again be accompanied by “high humidity at first, but fresher conditions will steadily become established from the west during the latter part of the night”.
