Carabao Cup first round ties set to be played over the weekend of 7-9 August.

Gillingham will kick off their league campaign the following at home against Walsall.

The draw for the League Cup first round came on the same day that Gillingham’s League Two fixtures were announced.

The Gills had a disappointing time in the cup competitions last season, offering little respite from a league campaign that quickly deteriorated

Gillingham lost to AFC Wimbledon in the first round last year, drawing 1-1 and then losing on penalties.

The year before that, they went out in the first round with an away defeat at Swansea, but 12 months earlier had enjoyed a 3-1 win over Southampton to make it to round two, where they lost away at Luton Town.

Round One will feature 70 Clubs – the two winners from the Preliminary Round alongside the other 68 EFL Clubs – with the draw regionalised into Northern and Southern sections.
