Gillingham’s former captain Max Ehmer has joined another non-league club following his Ebbsfleet United exit.
Ehmer spent last season playing National South football with the Fleet, after ending a long association with the Gills, where he made over 400 appearances.
At 34, Ehmer still feels he has something to offer and has joined another National South side, Farnborough, for the 2026/27 campaign.
Their manager Spencer Day said: “With over 400 EFL games behind him, I’m delighted Max has committed to come to Boro and be a pivotal part on and off the pitch in rebuilding our defence.
“His desire in wanting to come to Boro was a crucial part in my decision, and being locally-based played a huge part.
“A born leader who wants to play week in week out after a season fraught with difficulties, again shows he still has the hunger to move forward.”
Ehmer made 17 league appearances for the Fleet but didn’t play after a 2-2 home draw against his new team, Farnborough, at the end of February.
The German-born centre-back first joined the Gills on loan from QPR in November 2014 and signed permanently the following summer.
Until joining Fleet, he spent just one season away from Priestfield, with a year at Bristol Rovers that ended in relegation.
