The Nao Santa María, a replica of the vessel that carried Christopher Columbus across the Atlantic in 1492, will be open for public tours at Premier Marina Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne from June 19 until June 28.

The ship forms part of a wider 2026 European tour and is making its first-ever visit to Eastbourne.

Constructed in 2018 by the Fundación Nao Victoria, the 200-ton replica was commissioned to commemorate the 525th anniversary of the Encounter between Two Worlds.

Built in Punta Umbría, Huelva, Spain, it was crafted using iroko and pine wood by master shipwrights, following 15th-century records to replicate the original as closely as possible.

A spokesman for the Fundación Nao Victoria said: “The Nao Santa María is more than just a ship; it is a floating museum and a proud ambassador of the maritime, cultural and touristic heritage of the Province of Huelva (Spain).

“It represents the great historical oceanic expeditions that changed the course of world history—the discovery of the Americas.”

During its stay in Eastbourne, visitors of all ages are invited to step on board and explore the vessel, experiencing what life would have been like on a 15th-century transatlantic crossing.

The tours are designed to be both educational and immersive, offering insights into the construction of the ship, the daily routines of its crew and its vital role in one of history’s most significant voyages.

Visitors are welcome to tour the ship any time between 10am and 8pm.

Tickets are available at a discounted rate online until June 17, costing £10 for adults, £5 for children aged five to ten, and £25 for a family of two adults and up to three children.

Entry is free for children under five.

On-site ticket prices will be £12 for adults, £6 for children, and £30 for families.

Tickets can be booked at tickets.velacuadra.es.

The organisers have advised that if online tickets sell out, none will be available at the box office on the day.
